So it’s been a good minute since I’ve ventured into the pinning down and pouring out my thoughts onto this blog (or anywhere else for that matter). To say a lot has happened in my life, and probably the lives of countless others would be an understatement to say the least. So welcome 2017.
I watched a ball drop, watched one of my favorite singing icons drown in “mishaps”, and yet again, pen my wishful resolutions to take shape in this bright and shiny New Year ahead….but at this very moment, as I sit here keying and taking in this extraordinaire thing called everyday life I can’t help but flash back to the blur that we called 2016.
As the days continue to tick onward regardless of where we find ourselves, each passing year I continue to hold onto one particular constant. My love of books. My beacon of happiness that I have come to find usually embedded within the pages of a good book. It’s amazing what joy, inspiration, or even just a simple distraction a good story can play, running rampant against the confines of mere pages….the colorful chalk outline of my clarity….
More than half of 2016 is now under our belts and for the first time in a long time I honestly feel in the zone for reading. It hasn’t been systematically on a to do list to make time for my favorite pastime, finagling around work, family, or just everyday life to read more. It’s just been pure and simple…..Desire….Intrigue….A Sanity must some days, just to secure some much-needed me time away from the trials and tribulations known as life.
My Goodreads reading goals are more than on track, yet I have an inert book lovers longing to take it even further. I admit to taking myself off the readers radar for a while now. Yet now I’ve seen to have found myself back in my comfort zone, my familiar, my home away from home, longing to be snuggled within the confines of an amazing plot, invested in new and exciting characters, to be immersed in the plot of an addicting series. Yes, I’ve found my way home. Back to basics. Back to my love of reading.
Now that we are truly on the edge of another summer’s end has left me thinking about just how my 2015 summer reading journey began. Thinking back, I recall making a change-up of sorts, shifting genre gears, breaking out of my customary book zone of all things YA. Instead I found myself at some point taking trips down roads of age-old classics, tripping down the sideways of the lands of paranormal, and even making a few fantastically winding detours down the historical fictions and sci-fi lanes of the engagingly wonderful. So to say that I happily found my great escape with more than a few notable reads, would be more than an understatement. Books are forever my escape into the wilds of an author’s colorful imagination, but this summer was truly my road trip of amazing. And as the sun settles on the cusp of summer, lowering one season onto the bridge of another, it will be this book reader/writer’s pleasure to dip into the folds of Fall.
Now that the month of June has made its sneak appearance marking the halfway point of the year, I decided that it’s time to revisit an old friend of mine quaintly and quietly known to me as draft city. I’m a little ashamed to say that my first and only complete story that I penned well over 2 years ago has been MIA in my writing community since its birth. Sure I’ve done the customary trial visit every now and then to the lands of spell check, start and stop proofreading, and of course the always drop in to the pit stop of revision alley. But in all honesty, I can’t say that I’ve invested as much time, effort, and devotion to truly making a go at this particular story. Now this is my baby, the story that once had me writing, scripting, and all but pre-selecting a cast to bring my story to movie life a few years back. Yet these days all I seem to be about is creating/building an entirely something new. Which in actually is not so new.
I’ve embarked upon a round trip to the writers gateway reading “Welcome back to the land and art of Brainstorming.” It carries the potential to serve as a writing gateway in reaching a creative destination towards potential untapped ideas, as I map out my subsequent journey to fulfilling my not so empty writing dream. So I got to say that I’m looking forward to seeing which twists or subsequent turns this “lost” story will spin out as I polish up the old, and collect upon the new ideas in revamping my way yet again into the eye of the Brainstorm.
Another year is under our belts that I’m sure was filled with life’s tailor-made ups and downs, highs, and lows, and the unexpected supplementing all the in-between. While the still inspiring writer in me feels a slight let down at my struggles and lack of focus, Ii can’t help but take comfort in the triumphs that I did manage to accomplish in my personal and day job work life. So with that being said, here’s to all the promise, hope, and un-tapped greatness that I can’t help but feel is already incorporating its way into 2015. Happy twisted unexpected happiness to all in this coming 2015 New Year!!!!!!
Short but sweet is the game play of this post. With January almost under our belt I’m sure many of us have habits, both good and bad, that have served to either propel us towards our goals or ones that may have hindered them so far. I’ve recently come to realize that my new-found favorite pastime, one that many of you may know of as the Instagram craze, has captured far too much of my free time these past couple of weeks.
While I do enjoy the social sharing aspect of it, I recognize that what little spare time I do have outside of work and family should be put to better use, specifically centering around other facets of my long sought after writing pursuits. So I’ve decided that this will be my change-up and hopefully help keep up my writing momentum for February.
What aspects of your everyday life will you set in place, change, or try to kick the habit of in order to ignite your productivity this coming month?
