Just finished reading an amazing novel that has been out for a little while now (I am usually late in catching onto books when they first break out on the scene). But I have found that better late than never is always good when stumbling upon a good book. This time that cliché’ goes to “Shiver” by Maggie Stiefvater. The first in this series. It was a wonderful spin on the age-old story of the supernatural, namely werewolves in this tale. I found it to add not only the usual elements of teen romance, school drama, and the teen heroine that does everything in the name of holding onto to her first love. For me this book went a little deeper than that. It was, simply put, more simple. I loved the quaint aspects of human nature versus animal instincts that were portrayed throughout the book. The cold climate setting, the pack family merging with their human sides was believable, clear-cut, and beautiful, as was the wolf characters living their day-to-day lives as any other human family would when in human form. I definitely can’t wait to dive into the next book, Linger in the series. Maggie is definitely an author that I will be on the lookout for now on.
